What does “The “rural sector" means?
GARHMUKTESHWAR: situated on the National Highway 24 joining New Delhi with Kolkata.
The town is situated 100 km from the New Delhi and is the closest point from the capital where the Ganges flows. This ancient place is mentioned in both the Bhagvat Purana and the Mahabharata.
The name is derived from the great temple of Mukteshwar Mahadeva and was dedicated to Lord Shiva (Goddess of the Ganga). The Ganges is worshipped here in four different temples. These temples are situated on the cliff overlooking the Ganges and below it. One of them is situated alongside Meerut road.
The place is famous for its 80 Sati Pillars. These pillars mark the spots where Hindu widows have committed sati. The town also boasts off a mosque built by Gays-ud-din Bal ban that bears an inscription in Arabic dating 682 Hijri (1283).
Garmukteshwar is also famous for its bathing fair that takes place on the Full Moon Day of the month of Kartik.about 600.000 people come to have a dip in the river Ganga that considered holy.
Another fair, held on the occasion of Dussehra, attracts around 50.000 devotees.This village is 250 km from Delhi. Visit en-route the biggest temple complex in the world.
